General Electric first introduced ECM technology to the residential HVAC industry in 1987. This technology is predominately used in indoor blower motor and outdoor fan motor applications, as well as some induced draft motor applications. These innovative motors changed the HVAC industry by providing unmatched efficiency as well as comfort options not possible with PSC induction motors.
Regal Beloit acquired General Electric’s Commercial and HVAC Motors and Capacitors business in 2004 with the right to use the GE brand through 2009. These divisions were named GE ECM by Regal Beloit, GE Commercial Motors by Regal Beloit and GE Capacitors by Regal Beloit. In 2009, Regal Beloit announced the rebranding of those GE branded business under the name Genteq.
